Comma Confidence

Have you ever felt inadequate or like an imposter? I have to share a secret with you: I’ve never felt confident using commas in writing (and yes, I’m a writer and author. But I believe in having a good team around me and one of their strengths is commas, so they help me edit work).

My uncertainty with commas has been like a little haze in the background of my brain and finally the fuzz got buzzing loud enough that I took an action step.

Here’s WHAT I did: I reached out to a friend who is a word nerd and asked for her help. I told her specifically how I needed help (so I wouldn’t chicken out telling her later!)

Here’s HOW I did it: In a moment of strength, I scheduled a meet up time with her (I know myself well enough to know it killlzzz me to not keep my word to #showup as scheduled so I knew I would be there and finally address this need).

Here’s HOW it went: I learned some tricks (and realized I already knew a lot of things about commas #FANBOYS). I just needed a brush up on my skills (so it wasn’t as bad as I had made it out to be!!).

The RESULT is now, I can use them with greater confidence (whew!) and move past a fear of mine (can you relate to fears like this?)

What specific thing or skill that makes you feel uncertain (or inadequate like me)? What is it? (Name it!)

Do you see a way you can take one step to hit it head on so you can (soon!) move past it? What is one step you can take?

(Commas are just the start for me, friend, so stay tuned for more of how I overcome things that haunt me.)
